From the Black Death, to the 1918 influenza epidemic, to the current avian flu threat, infectious diseases have had a profound impact on human life, history, and culture.

Using Mayville State University’s Honors Institute as a foundation, OUTBREAK takes a cross-curricular approach to discussing the spread of infectious disease.

OUTBREAK materials begin with the science of infectious disease from microbes to vaccines. From there materials integrate history, geography, social studies, economics, and literature. Visit the links at the top of this page to find study guides with classroom activities, media files of interviews and discussions, and a collection of links to other web resources.
