Parade • Corn & Hot Dog Feed What is the Farmers Bowl? The Farmers Bowl is an all-day celebration sponsored by the Mayville State University Foundation. Many community volunteers and Mayville State supporters work together to present this event that honors the proud agricultural heritage of the area. Farmers Bowl 2009 will be held on September 26. This will be the fifteenth annual Farmers Bowl. The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a parade featuring farm equipment, bands, antique vehicles, and floats. Immediately following the parade, there will be a free corn on the cob and hot dog feed held near Jerome Berg Field on the MSU campus. The Mayville State University Comets football team will play South Dakota Tech at 1:30 p.m. See the Comets volleyball team in action versus Dickinson State beginning at 5:00 p.m. a the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. The auction event will begin with a social featuring an hors d’oeuvres buffet at the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room at 5:00 p.m. Bidding on the silent auction will also begin at that time. The Farmers Bowl Parade We’d love to have you join us for the 15th annual Farmers Bowl Parade! The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, and will run through downtown Mayville, ending on the Mayville State University campus, near Jerome Berg Field. If you’d like to join in the parade with your farm equipment, classic car, horse, music, your business or organization’s parade float, or any other type of entry, please e-mail alumni_mayville@mayvillestate.edu, or call 701-788-4864 or 1-800-437-4104, ext. 34864. Auction The Farmers Bowl Auction will be held for the thirteenth time in 2009. The first auction, in 1997, over $14,000 was raised. The total amount raised has grown from $21,000 in 1998 and $24,000 in 1999, to more than $30,000 each year in 2000, 2001, and 2002. About $40,000 was raised each year from 2003 through 2008. The proceeds of the auction are administered by the MSU Foundation for the benefit of Mayville State University and its students. Attend the Farmers Bowl Auction! The Farmers Bowl Auction will be held at the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. The silent auction begins at 5:00 p.m. and will run through 8:00 p.m. The live auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. and continue throughout the evening. An hors d’oeuvres buffet will open at 5:00 p.m. and be available until the live auction ends. Admission tickets for the auction sell for $25.00 per person and can be purchased online or at MayPort Hardware Hank and Goose River Bank in Mayville, N.D., and at First & Farmers Bank in Mayville and Portland, N.D. The list includes theme dinner parties; handcrafted items, including quilted pieces, jewelry, and paintings; theme parties for children; a number of fun and useful household items; and much, much more. Here are just a few items that have been donated for this year’s auction: MN Vikings Cheerleaders autographed calendar, Norwegian goodies, bistro set, dinner party featuring a meal prepared by the chef at the Roughrider Motel in Medora, MN Twins bat autographed by Denard Span, Dinner at WF Maxwells Restaurant, two round trip air travel tickets from Fargo to Mesa/Phoenix, 2008 collectors series Green Bay Packers football, “Wicked Wayne’s Whine,” children’s musical clock, hand-quilted fall table topper, four tickets to Lorie Line’s 2009 holiday show, Florida getaway, hand-knit wool slippers, hand-stitched mittens, MSU leather reclining chair and ottoman, MSU ragtime quilt, music lessons, antique rocking chair, Sioux hockey mini-vacation for two, and much more. Click here to purchase your ticket online now. “Pride … Then and Now” Artwork Raffle Doug Anderson, 1974 Mayville State graduate, has painted and donated a beautiful piece of artwork which is a watercolor with pen and ink. Cost of framing the piece was donated by Merwin and Myrna Lyng. The frame is made from mopboards rescued from the former Mayville High School building. Tickets sell for $5.00 each.
