Farmers Bowl 2008
What is the Farmers Bowl? The Farmers Bowl is an all-day celebration sponsored by the Mayville State University Foundation. Many community volunteers and Mayville State supporters work together to present this event that honors the proud agricultural heritage of the area.
Farmers Bowl 2008 will be held on September 27. This will be the fourteenth annual Farmers Bowl. The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a parade featuring farm equipment, bands, antique vehicles, and floats. Immediately following the parade, there will be a free corn on the cob and hot dog feed held near Jerome Berg Field on the MSU campus. The Mayville State University Comets will play Black Hills State University at 1:30 p.m. The auction event will begin with a social featuring an hors d’oeuvres buffet at the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room at 5:00 p.m. Bidding on the silent auction will also begin at that time. The excitement of the live auction will be unleashed at seven o’clock.

Vikings Cheerleaders to Join in the Fun!
To add to the fun, Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders Krisandra and Sarah, who grew up in Hillsboro, N.D., will join in the festivities of the 14th annual Farmers bowl. There will be photo opportunities throughout the day. Monetary proceeds from this activity will be split between Mayville State University and the Minnesota Vikings Children’s Fund.
The Farmers Bowl Parade
We’d love to have you join us for the 14th annual Farmers Bowl Parade! The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, and will run through downtown Mayville, ending on the Mayville State University campus, near Jerome Berg Field.
If you’d like to join in the parade with your farm equipment, classic car, horse, music, your business or organization’s parade float, or any other type of entry, please e-mail alumni_mayville@mayvillestate.edu, or call 701-788-4687 or 1-800-437-4104, ext. 34687. Call any time and leave a message. Include your name and phone number Parade entrants may begin lining up for the parade any time after 8:00 a.m. on September 27.

The Auction
The Farmers Bowl Auction will be held for the twelfth time in 2008. The first auction, in 1997, raised over $14,000. The total amount raised has grown from $21,000 in 1998 and $24,000 in 1999, to more than $30,000 each year in 2000, 2001, and 2002. About $40,000 was raised each year from 2003 through 2007. The proceeds of the auction are administered by the MSU Foundation for the benefit of Mayville State University and its students.

The Farmers Bowl Auction will be held at the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. The silent auction begins at 5:00 p.m. and will run through 8:00 p.m. The live auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. and continue throughout the evening. An hors d’oeuvres buffet will open at 5:00 p.m. and be available until the live auction ends. Admission tickets for the auction sell for $25.00 per person and can be purchased online or at MayPort Hardware Hank and Goose River Bank in Mayville, N.D., and at First & Farmers Bank in Mayville and Portland, N.D.

What will be available for purchase at the auction?
A fantastic array of items has been donated and will be available for purchase at the auction. The list includes theme dinner parties; handcrafted items, including quilted pieces, jewelry, and paintings; theme parties for children; a number of fun and useful household items; and much, much more.
Here are just a few items that have been donated for this year’s auction: “Titanic” theme dinner party, Polaris winter jacket, tickets to the performance of “Hairspray” at the FargoDome, Vikings Cheerleaders autographed calendar, dinner party featuring live lobster flown in from Maine; Vikings helmet autographed by Adrian Peterson, handcrafted coffee table, handcrafted end table featuring a heating grate from the former Mayville High School building, tailgating survival kit, “Mad Scientist” birthday party for 8; black electric smokehouse, homemade pie of the month package, an Olympics-themed swimming party, Norwegian goodies, vineyard bistro bar set, and much more.

Tickets are being sold for the chance to win a Nintendo Wii Sports. The drawing will be held at the Farmers Bowl Auction on September 27. Need not be present to win. Tickets are $5.00 each. “Tradition” Watercolor Painting Raffle
Doug Anderson, 1974 Mayville State graduate, has painted and donated a beautiful watercolor. Cost of framing the piece was donated by Kelly Morrison (’76). Tickets sell for $5.00 each. Don’t miss your chance to own this beautiful artwork! Drawing will be held at all-alumni homecoming social scheduled for Saturday, October 11. Need not be present to win.
