Bob "Da Boss" Miess
Advisor

Bob “Da Boss” Miess is a small town ailurophile. He likes living with his three cats; they are very cool but help to keep him grounded. He claims that they are the arbiters of his eclectic tastes, but how difficult can it be to please three finicky cats – really? While away from the cats, Bob spends his time trying to teach class, to administer (to) the MSU Division of Science & Mathematics, and to enjoy life. For a brief while each week he shares some of his alternative musical interests by co-hosting “In The Lab" and "The Unbeaten Path".

Nicholas "Nick" Moe
Producer/Host

Nick Moe is from Bemidji, MN and came to Mayville to play metal over the radio and possibly study. He is the creator and co-host of “Sound of Doom”. This is his first year at Mayville State and looks forward to listening to speaker-destroying metal. He hopes someday to have people appreciate metal the same way he does, and at the same time is hoping to successfully ride in a barrel down Niagara falls.

Zachary "Zack" Schuster
Host

Matt "Doc" Wanat
Advisor

An Associate Professor of English, Matt Wanat teaches a range of classes, including dual-credit and on-campus composition, American literature, literary and cultural theory, English education methods, Shakespeare, and cinema. Dr. Wanat's research examines intersections of form and culture in the areas of American literature, cinema studies, and, occasionally, popular music. His musical interests are grounded in American roots music—early commercial country music, blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and a variety of unsung genres—an eclectic range of interests that inevitably creeps into his shows. Therefore, "Flatbilly Blues" is both steeped in tradition and irreverently "inauthentic," whereas on "Fall of Troy" alternative rocker PJ Harvey might holler the blues with hillbilly singer Roscoe Holcomb leading into a Motown song. That's how Dr. Wanat likes it.

Anthony Strand
Producer/Host

Anthony, a senior, is from Hatton, North Dakota. He enjoys all of the action his home city has to offer, and holds the record for reading Scripture in St. John Church the most times by age 22. His majors are History and English Education, and he plans to go to graduate school in some wacky area or another. He is currently the most enthusiastic library assistant at the Byrnes-Quanbeck Library. He has appeared in a couple of little MSU theatre productions and was a staff writer for nearly the entire run of the now defunct Comet Flash, where he wrote movie recommendations and various other nonsense. He spends his free time reading comic books and watching movies and television. When he isn't watching them, chances are he's overanalyzing them.

Christopher Strand

Christopher went to my school in our town of 500 people in North Dakota. My first encounter with him was sitting next to him on a school bus. He was eating Handi-Snacks and had clear braces, so the artificial cheese was all caught up in there with the crumby crackers. He and Alex Arcone and Chris Kimball transformed our tiny school into a theater of the surreal. They would crawl across the classroom floor mid-lecture to touch the social studies teacher lightly on the wingtip. "Loose pause!" one of them would say, and the group would collapse limp. "I'd like to tell the other teachers what you're doing, but I don't know what it is you're doing," said one teacher to Christopher as he pushed him against the wall in fury.
