Giving Hearts Day

Thank you!

Thank you to all who gave from the heart on Giving Hearts Day! Thanks to the generosity of many Mayville State alumni and friends, about $40,000 was raised to help get the new RN to BSN online nursing program started at Mayville State. Click here to see a list of donors and volunteers.

What is Giving Hearts Day?

Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour online fundraiser for non-profit charities in western Minnesota and North Dakota. This event is sponsored by the Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) and Impact Foundation. It will take place on February 13, 2014. Donations must be made online on this day only.

What does this mean for Mayville State University?

The Mayville State University Foundation will participate in Giving Hearts Day for the first time in 2014. Proceeds from this day will be applied to Mayville State's new RN to BSN nursing program. Total gifts (up to $4,000) will be matched by the Dakota Medical Foundation. All gifts made to this project will also be matched at 50% through the North Dakota "Matching Fund for Enhanced Academics" through the state of North Dakota.

History of Fundraising Success

Giving Hearts Day raised $325,000 for local MSU_GivingHearts-web_graphic_2.jpgcharities in 2008, its first year. Donations topped the million-dollar mark in 2011, and increased to a staggering 40% in 2012. DMF and Impact developed to create a powerful regional user-friendly site for donors to find and connect with charities. Non-profits profile their organizations on the site, receive donations, recruit volunteers, and take event registrations. Today, more than 450 charities are listed. Donors can easily give on Giving Hearts Day with just a few minutes of time, without regard to the weather or need to attend an event. The 24-hour window creates urgency that spurs people to action. Additional matching funds available

Mayville State has a chance to earn even more funding from the DMF! The participating charity that earns the highest amount in donations on Giving Hearts Day will receive $15,000 from DMF, and the organization raising the second-highest amount will receive $10,000. Grants will be awarded to the top-ten earners. Other $500 grants will be awarded for the most creative marketing strategy, donations from the most people, best use of social media, and most donations from the most North Dakota cities and the most states. Let your Comet pride show! Please help us to achieve above and beyond and earn rewards for our new BSN nursing program!

The Matching Fund for Enhanced Academics

All funds raised for Mayville State University on Giving Hearts Day will be eligible for a 50% match through "The Matching Fund for Enhanced Academics," an amazing new program created by the 63rd Legislative Assembly to spur philanthropic giving to North Dakota's state universities and enhance academic excellence. Think about it ... you may donate $100, but Mayville State will receive $150 and be much closer to its goal of funding the new RN to BSN program! Add that to the benefits afforded by the Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Foundation on Giving Hearts Day, and we're on the fast track to even greater things for Mayville State University and its students!
