Thank you!

Thank you to all who gave from the heart on Giving Hearts Day in 2014! Thanks to the generosity of many Mayville State alumni and friends, about $40,000 was raised to help get the new RN to BSN online nursing program started at Mayville State. We have been selected to participate again on February 12, 2015! We hope you will plan on joining us in making Giving Hearts Day a continued success.

What is Giving Hearts Day?

Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour online fundraiser for non-profit charities in western Minnesota and North Dakota. This event is sponsored by the Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) and Impact Foundation. It will take place on February 12, 2015. Donations must be made online on this day only.

What does this mean for Mayville State University?

The Mayville State University Foundation will participate in Giving Hearts Day for the second time in 2015. Proceeds from this day will be applied to Mayville State's new RN to BSN nursing program. Total gifts (up to $4,000) will be matched by the Dakota Medical Foundation. All gifts made to this project will also be matched at 50% through the North Dakota "Matching Fund for Enhanced Academics" through the state of North Dakota for as long as these funds are available.

History of Fundraising Success

Giving Hearts Day raised $325,000 for local MSU_GivingHearts-web_graphic_2.jpgcharities in 2008, its first year. Donations topped the million-dollar mark in 2011. In 2012, Giving Hearts Day reached the Bismarck area, with 10 organizations taking part. While Giving Hearts Day is regional, donations come from across the United States. In 2013, 13 Bismarck charities and five Minot charities took part, with Bush Foundation of St. Paul funding charity training for this expansion. The first charities in the Dickinson area came on board in 2014, thanks again to funding from the Bush Foundation.

With many organizations sending postcards, emails, Facebook and Twitter messages, there is strong public awareness for the day. For any single organization, the cost is minimal, but the combined effect of all these messages is powerful in the region. DMF and Impact also mount a marketing campaign for the day in major North Dakota cities.
