How to Find an Article

bullet

Off campus:  If you are trying to access a database or index from off campus, you may need to type in your barcode (located on your student ID) and password (your last name) to log in.  Your ID must also be activated by a librarian.  If you cannot get in see the instructions on what you can do.

  1. One of the first places to look for an article is EBSCO online.  This lists the EBSCO databases available to you.
  2. Find the database that will best fit the article of what you are looking for.  Click the check box for the database you would like to search.  You can select more than one.  Once you have made your selection, click on the continue button.
  3. Click in the text box and type in your search terms.  You may use Boolean operators (AND, OR, or NOT) within your search.
  4. You may also limit your search or expand your search by choosing any of the options below the search box.  Click on Search once you have entered in your search criteria.
  5. You will get a listing of all the articles that match your search.  There are 10 results on each screen with the most current at the top.
  6. Many of the articles are full text and are available in html or PDF format.  Click on either to display the full article.  You can print, email, save, or add the article to a folder.
  7. If the article is not full-text check to see if our library owns that magazine title.  To do that see our online holdings listing.  There are also copies of this listing scattered throughout the library.  If our library does not own a specific periodical that contains the article you need, you may submit an interlibrary loan request.
  8. If you do not find what you are looking for try another database or any of our electronic resources or online journals.
