First-day figures show that Mayville State University is experiencing significant enrollment increases for the Spring Semester of 2010. The first-day headcount enrollment was 717, a 2.6% increase over first-day headcount in the Spring Semester of 2009. This number reflects an 18.5% increase in full-time students overall, and a 66.6% increase in the number of new full-time transfer students, compared with the Spring Semester of 2009.

The public is cordially invited to attend an open house at Mayville State University’s coal-fueled heating plant on Monday, January 11, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The plant is located on the west edge of campus along County Road 14. Guests are asked to park in the lot on the west side of the building and enter the building there as well.

Good friends, good food, Comets football, and a fantastic fund-raiser highlighted the 15th annual Mayville State University Farmers Bowl celebration on Saturday, September 26. The Farmers Bowl, sponsored by the MSU Foundation, teams Mayville State University with the community in a festival celebrating the area’s agricultural way of life. Yearly activities include a parade, corn on the cob and hot dog feed, Mayville State Comets football game, and a fund-raising auction. This year, a home Mayville State volleyball game was also a part of the activities.

President's Column Over the last several years, we’ve watched and enjoyed the growth in Mayville State University’s music department. As you may know, the music department at Mayville State University fell victim to budget cuts in the early 1990s, but music at Mayville State has gradually made a comeback in recent years, beginning with the formation of a University Singers group, which has evolved into a concert choir. A concert band and stage band have also been added. FULL STORY The annual Traill County-Mayville State Reunion Luncheon will be held in Mesa, Arizona on February 9, 2010. My wife Debbie and I will attend the luncheon once again this year, and spend a few days in Arizona visiting with some wonderful Mayville State alumni and friends. FULL STORY While the North Dakota Legislature is not in session this winter, the work of this body continues, and consequently, so does our legislative work. I was in Bismarck on January 19 and 20 for the North Dakota University System (NDUS) meetings with the Legislature’s Interim Higher Education Committee. Each of the NDUS campus presidents was given an opportunity to participate in discussions on January 19. Topics included program evaluation procedures, faculty engagement and evaluation, student involvement, tuition waivers and workforce needs, and higher education funding. MSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Keith Stenehjem also attended the January 19 meeting. University System office personnel made presentations to the Higher Education Committee on January 20. FULL STORY
