Sanford Health Becomes First Comet Athletic Club Member for 2010-2011
With their gift of $5,000, Sanford Health has become the first member of the Mayville State University Comet Athletic Club for the 2010-2011 year. The hospital and clinic in Mayville are both a part of Sanford Health. The Comet Athletic Club is the subsidiary of the MSU Foundation that raises funds for scholarships for student athletes at Mayville State University. One of the main sources of funding for the group is the annual membership drive which will officially kick off in August.
“We sincerely appreciate the generous support of Sanford Health and their willingness to support the efforts of the community,” said Comet Athletic Club President Matt Cordell. “This donation puts us well on our way to our fund-raising goals for the 2010-2011 year.”
In addition to the membership drive, the Comet Athletic Club sponsors a number of fund-raising activities each year, including the Sportsmen’s Raffle. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, September 11, and will feature a 55-gun giveaway, an ATV raffle, and a number of other side raffles, as well as dinner and other activities. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from Comet Athletic Club board members and area businesses, and at www.mayvillestate.edu.
The Comet Athletic Club also raises funds by sponsoring 3-on-3 basketball tournaments for elementary and high school students, a club volleyball tournament, and a number of golf events each year.
