2009-2010 Mayville State Students of the Year Named The Mayville State University 2009-2010 Students of the Year were named at the annual Academic and Student Senate Awards Program held Sunday, April 18. They are Samantha Agnes, Portland, N.D.; Josh Berge, Larimore, N.D.; Micah Berge, Larimore, N.D.; Matthew Mueller, St. Cloud, Minn.; Ashley Roeske, Jamestown, N.D.; Zachary Schaefer, Langdon, N.D.; and David Slezak, Pezinok, Slovakia. Candidates for the Student of the Year Award are nominated by fellow students. Nominees are asked to complete an application that is reviewed by members of Mayville State’s student affairs committee. Nominees also go through an interview process with members of the committee. Other nominees for 2009-2010 Student of the Year were Hardy DeLong, Mayville, N.D.; Krissandra Jentz, Mantador, N.D.; Julia Junge Berge, Itzehoe, Germany; Sara King, Mayville, N.D.; Amanda Lara, Thief River Falls, Minn.; Mike Molina, Emerado, N.D.; Brenna Noltimier, Penn, N.D.; Chad Palowski, Arthur, N.D.; Lindsay Sannes, Wahpeton, N.D.; Mitchell Schwindt, Sacred Heart, Minn.; Kelli Smart, Ada, Minn.; Amanda Sondeland, Edinburg, N.D.; and David Torgeson, Mayville, N.D. Samantha Agnes is a senior from Portland, N.D. She is pursuing a major in elementary education. A Dean’s List student and scholarship recipient, Samantha is active on campus as a member and officer of the Student Activities Council, a Student Senator, and Student Alumni Ambassador. She participates in the Mayville State band and choir and is involved with MSU Theatre. Samantha was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges in 2009. She is the daughter of Teresa and Jerry Agnes. Josh Berge, a junior from Larimore, N.D., is a member of Mayville State’s basketball team. He is a scholarship recipient and Dean’s List student. On campus, he is involved with Campus Crusade, is a member of the university choir, is a lifeguard at the MSU pool and tutors math students. Josh is pursuing majors in mathematics education and physical education. His parents are Kermit and Carolyn Berge. Micah Berge is a senior from Larimore, N.D. He is pursuing majors in social science education and physical education. A member of the Mayville State varsity basketball team, Micah is involved in Campus Crusade for Christ and Residence Hall Association, and he is a member of the MSU choir. A Dean’s List student and scholarship recipient, Josh was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & College in 2009. He is the son of Kermit and Carolyn Berge. Matthew Mueller is a senior from St. Cloud, Minn. He is a member of the Mayville State varsity baseball team and a Dean’s List student. He is a scholarship recipient, and has been active on campus as a member of the Business Administration Club. Matthew will graduate this spring with a major in business administration. He is the son of Jim and Beth Mueller. Ashley Roeske is a junior from Jamestown, N.D. pursuing a degree in elementary education. She is a member of the MSU Student Senate, and has served as the organization’s president for the past year. She is also a Student Alumni Ambassador and a member of the Student Education Association, serving as that group’s public relations officer in 2009-2010. Ashley is a scholarship recipient and Dean’s List student. Her parents are Darwin and Pauline Roeske. Zachary Schaefer will graduate this spring with a degree in business administration. He has been named to the Dean’s List in each of his semesters of enrollment at Mayville State. A member of the Mayville State varsity baseball team for four years, Zachary is also involved in the Business Administration Club. He is a scholarship recipient and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges in 2009. Zachary is the son of Chris and Patty Schaefer. David Slezak, a junior from Pezinok, Slovakia, is a dean’s list student and scholarship recipient. He is a member of the varsity men’s basketball team and is active on campus as a Student Alumni Ambassador and show host for Comet Radio. David is a member of the Business Administration Club, The Orbit school newspaper, and Psychology Club. He is pursuing a major in business administration. His parents are Adriana and Daniel Slezakovy. |
