The Mayville State University Comet men's basketball team opened up the 2009-10 campaign against Canadian Mennonite University on Friday, October 23rd at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville.
The Comets were led offensively by Alfonzo McNeal and Ross Aman with 20 and 14 points resepctively. Brad Sand, Micah Berge, and Jarvis Bearstail each had 9 points in the contest.
The Comets absolutely dominated the Blazers on the boards with a 59-23 advantage, including 24 offensive rebounds. Ross Aman recorded his first double-double of the season by the end of the first half and finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Brad Sand also finished with 12 rebounds and just one point shy of a double-double.
Every Comet that checked into the game tonight was able to get into the scoring books. Balanced scoring, a good defensive effort, and great rebounding were the keys to the game.
Dalonte Gibson and Alfonzo McNeal led the Comets with 4 assists each as the Comets were able to dish out 21 assists in the game.
The Blazers were led in scoring by Enoch Nazaire who finished with 24 points. Nazaire also had 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and was 6-6 from the free throw line. Paul Muns and Alex Leaver both had 11 for CMU.
The Comets are now 1-0 on the season.
