Homecoming is a wonderful time because old friends are reacquainted as they reconnect with their alma mater. We look forward to renewing acquaintances and making new friends during Mayville State’s homecoming activities next week.
Mayville State students will enjoy homecoming festivities throughout the week, and special events planned especially for alumni and friends are scheduled for October 9-11. Highlights will include the annual MSU Athletic Hall of Fame dinner, an open house and exhibit in the Northern Lights Art Gallery, the traditional homecoming parade, a reunion of Mayville State’s 1959 N.D.I.A.C. championship football team, a salute to Harvey McMullen, football game, Alumni Association Awards Luncheon, and the MSU Concert Choir and Band concert. The weekend festivities will kick off with the Comet Athletic Club Luncheon at noon on Friday, October 9, at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. Get the scoop on all the Comet teams and check out the many improvements that have been made to the athletic facilities. From 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., check out the work of Mayville State alum Janice Overmoe Tingum the Northern Lights Art Gallery, located on the upper level of the MSU Campus Center. The exhibit, “Janice Tingum: Coming Home” will be on display at the gallery through November 6. Join us at 6:00 p.m. in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room for the annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner. Meet this year’s inductees, Stan Barta, Pam Huston, Gordon Leduchowski, Tim Pratt, and Jason Schwabe. The day will end with a social at the Mayville VFW Club, beginning at 9:00 p.m. Join in the party and visit with the members of the Hall of Fame. Mayville State University will be renaming College Drive in honor of Mayville State and city of Mayville celebrity Stanley Dakken. A program recognizing this honor will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, prior to the homecoming parade. The ceremony will be held across the street from the northeast corner of the Campus Center. Please join us in recognizing Stan. The homecoming parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10. Be downtown promptly at 10:00. You won’t want to miss the fun!
Lunch will be served in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. At the luncheon, the Alumni Association will be honoring its Distinguished Alumni Award recipients Broc Lietz, William Rindy, and Tom Seymour. The MSU choir will be on hand to perform for you, so come and enjoy the excellent music and join in the singing of the MSU Comet Fight Song. Football game time is 2:00 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field. The Comets will battle the Jamestown Jimmies. Come and cheer the Comets on to victory. Halftime activities will include the recognition of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients, Harvey McMullen, the 1959 football team, and the Hall of Fame inductees. Dress in your blue and white and let your Comet pride shine! All alumni and friends are invited to attend the all-alumni homecoming social at the KT Hall in Portland following the game. This will also be the site for the reunion of the 1959 football team and the salute to Harvey McMullen. The Hall of Fame inductees and the Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be on hand for visiting. A picnic-style supper will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The “Salute to Harvey McMullen” program will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the social will continue from about 7:30 to 11:00 p.m. Come join in the fun! Everyone is welcome! The MSU Concert Choir and Band, under the direction of Mr. Mike Bakken, will present a concert in the Classroom Building Auditorium at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11. The MSU music ensembles have gown significantly in size the past few years, and they are excited about performing for you. It will be a real treat!
