MSU Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle Is Huge Success

The third annual Mayville State University Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle event held Saturday evening, September 12 at the Mayville Armory, was a huge success. Preliminary figures show that about $30,000 was raised in the event. Proceeds will be used to support scholarships for Mayville State University student athletes. The highlight of the evening was the raffle drawing for 50 guns that were given away to individuals who had purchased raffle tickets for a chance to win. The event also included dinner and a variety of other raffles, games, and prizes.

“We at Mayville State extend our since thanks to all who played a part in the success of the third annual Sportsmen’s Raffle,” said Mayville State University President Gary Hagen. “This activity is extremely important to Mayville State, and specifically Mayville State Athletics. We are grateful to all who help organize the Sportsmen’s Raffle, as well as to the many people who purchased raffle tickets and participated in the raffle event activities on September 12.”

About $10,000 worth of side raffle prizes were also given away at the event. Tufte Sales of Northwood, N.D. sponsored the raffle of a 2009 Polaris 500 Sportsman four-wheel all terrain vehicle. Tim Strand, Mayville, N.D., was the winner of the ATV. In other raffles, Marilyn Chandler of Thompson, N.D. won a spa package, Fred Vadnie of Galesburg, N.D. won a deluxe gas grill, and Matt Chandler of Mayville, N.D. won a week at Breezy Shores Resort. A number of other prizes were raffled as well.

The Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle is held each year to raise funds for scholarships for Mayville State’s student-athletes. Tickets for the gun raffle sold for $100 each. Only 500 tickets are sold each year, so there is a one in 10 chance to win a gun.
