Original Artwork to be Raffled as Part of Mayville State University Farmers Bowl Auction

Plans are underway for the Mayville State University Farmers Bowl, scheduled for September 26, 2009. For the ninth consecutive year, artist and MSU alumnus Doug Anderson, Cavalier, N.D., has created and donated a piece of artwork that will be raffled as part of the scholarship fund-raising efforts of the Mayville State University Foundation in conjunction with the Farmers Bowl Auction.

Anderson’s work, which incorporates a watercolor painting with pen and ink technique, is entitled “Pride … Then and Now,” and features the brick columns that grace the front entrance to Mayville State’s historic Old Main. Anderson has also printed the words to “All Hail,” a song by Albert Andrews and found in the 1927 edition of Mayville State’s yearbook, “The Mill,” on the work.

The piece is framed with mopboards rescued from the former Mayville (N.D.) High School building. The finished framed size is 31” x 39”. The cost of framing the piece has been donated by Mayville State alumni Merwin and Myrna Lyng of Mayville. Dr. Merwin Lyng is Mayville State Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and his wife Myrna is a retired member of the Mayville State faculty and staff.

“Pride … Then and Now” will be on display at Mayville-Portland area financial institutions and on the Mayville State campus during the next several weeks.

Raffle tickets sell for $5.00 each. They may be purchased at the locations where the painting is displayed, as well as in other area businesses, the MSU Foundation office, and from various community members. Tickets are also available for sale online at www.mayvillestate.edu, and at the Farmers Bowl Auction on Saturday evening, September 26. The drawing will be held at the auction.

Watercolor paintings donated by Anderson for past raffles were “Summer Serenity,” “Historic Old Main,” East Hall,” “Skating at Island Park,” “Old Main in Bloom,” “The Power of Place, Old Main,” “Floral Celebration,” and “Tradition.”
