Doug Peters, an independent certified coach, teacher, and speaker with the John Maxwell Team, as well as athletic director at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, will lead a formal leadership development presentation at Mayville State Wednesday, Nov. 13. The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the MSU Classroom Building Auditorium. The public is invited to attend the presentation as well as a social that will follow in the MSU Campus Center foyer. The event is being sponsored by the Mayville State University Larson Leadership Program.

Peters’ program will offer tangible outcomes that will blend with the four foundational levels of the leadership program at Mayville State - leadership awareness, interest, exploration, and demonstration.  This program will provide all participants with applicable and relative leadership skills that will result in increased understanding of why leadership is important, as well as increased motivation to further develop as leaders.

The foundational base for Mr. Peters’ presentation is John Maxwell’s book, Developing the Leader Within You. Maxwell is one of the country’s foremost experts on leadership and leadership development. He has numerous publications and research to his credit. The three core ideas of the program Peters will present at Mayville State introduce and examine fundamental skills leaders need to influence others, including leading the toughest follower; adding value to others; and listening and connecting.

The Larson Leadership Program on the campus of Mayville State University is funded through a grant from the Edson & Margaret Larson Foundation. This program is designed to improve skills and provide experiences that will enhance the leadership potential of Mayville State University graduates and the surrounding communities.
