Prior to Mayville State’s home baseball game Saturday, April 23, Mayville State University Head Baseball Coach Scott Berry will be honored for reaching 1,000 career wins. The program will begin at 1 p.m. at Scott Berry Field, Mayville, N.D. The Comets will face Presentation College in a baseball double-header that will follow immediately after the program.

The Comets will also play Presentation in a double-header at Scott Berry Field in a game beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22.

The historic 1,000th win for Berry took place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, against North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference opponent, the University of Winnipeg, on Monday, April 18. Coach Berry started the day at 997 total wins and looked for a clean sweep of the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in a triple-header in order to clinch win number 1,000. The Comets won all three games.

Coach Berry is one of just six active coaches in the NAIA who have won a total of 1,000 games for their career. He has won them all as head coach of the Mayville State Comets.

In 1981, Scott Berry spent one year as an assistant coach at Mayville State under the legendary Al Meyer. Berry then replaced Meyer as the head coach of the Comets the following season, when Berry was 25 years of age. Now, 35 seasons later, Coach Berry has reached an unprecedented level in North Dakota collegiate baseball as he has maintained a level of success on the baseball diamond that is unmatched.
