A longtime dream has become a reality! Artificial turf has been installed at Mayville State University’s Jerome Berg Field. The first Mayville State game to be played on the new turf will be the Farmers Bowl game on Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 1 p.m. The Comets will host College of St. Scholastica. First State Bank is sponsoring the game. Those who are unable to attend the game in person can listen in at KNOX 1310 AM or 107.9 FM.

Construction on the turf project began in June, under the management supervision of Zerr-Berg Architects, Fargo. A ground breaking ceremony, complete with shovels, was held June 5.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the entrance to Jerome Berg Field on Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 11 a.m. Following a short program, those in attendance will get a chance to have a closer look at the field. In addition, donors to the project will be recognized when the turf is officially dedicated at half time of the game. The half time program will also include the naming of the winners of the MSU Foundation Farmers Bowl cash raffle and artwork raffle.

Farmers Bowl 2018 will begin with the “Farmers Bowl Field Frenzy 5K” run/walk. A majority of the fast out and back race course will be located on the beautiful MSU campus, starting and finishing in front of historic Old Main. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome. Race time is 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. The registration fee is $10 per person. The fee will be waived for Mayville State students who show their official university identification. Proceeds of this event will benefit the fundraising efforts of the Farmers Bowl. You can register at www.mayvillestate.edu/farmersbowl.

The MSU Bookstore, located in the Campus Center, will be open from 11:20 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The corn and hot dog feed will be back this year! Following the parade, everyone is welcome to enjoy corn on the cob and hot dogs under the tent located west of the field. The Mayville State athletic teams are coordinating this year’s feed which will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted. This will be a great time for members of the community to meet the Mayville State athletes and new Mayville State athletic director Ryan Hall and his family.

Community members are invited to enjoy family-friendly activities at the “Turf-tastic Celebration” outside of Jerome Berg Field after the parade and before the football game. Activities will include inflatable games, a farmers market, face painting, potato sack races, corn hole games, music, giveaways, and more! There will be fun for everyone from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Mayville State University Comet Athletic Club will host a post-game social at the Top Hat in downtown Mayville beginning at 5 p.m. The social is being sponsored by Citizens Insurance Agency in Finley, Cooperstown, and Northwood. Everyone is welcome.

The Mayville Fire Department will serve their annual breakfast at the fire hall from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sept. 8. Freewill donations to support the fire department will be taken.
