The all-time enrollment record has been broken for the third-straight year at Mayville State University. Final Fall Semester 2014 figures show 1,081 students enrolled, breaking the previous record of 1,065 students enrolled, which was set in 2013, and 1,020 students enrolled, a record set in 2012. The number of beginning freshmen enrolled this fall increased by 30% over 2013 numbers.

Over the last several years, Mayville State has experienced enrollment increases across the board. Since the Fall Semester of 2013, full time enrollment has increased by 8%, while the full time equivalent has jumped by 7%. The majority of Mayville State’s students are from North Dakota and represent 62% of the total student population.

“We are very pleased with the enrollment gains at Mayville State University,” said Mayville State University President Dr. Gary Hagen, “and especially excited about having broken the all-time record once again. It is our aim to provide flexible and meaningful educational opportunities for all students. Toward that end, we are vigilant in our efforts to make university‐wide improvements, including changes in programs, instructional delivery methods, and facilities. Our dual credit enrollment is at an all-time high, attesting to our commitment to provide opportunities for the young people in our rural state.”

Mayville State University, the nation’s first Tablet PC campus, is a personable rural campus. Featuring technology-enriched education in which full-time, on-campus students are issued tablet PC notebook computers, MSU is nationally identified for teacher education, the largest academic program on campus. Fitness and wellness and business administration are also popular majors.  Students enrolled in the Dakota Nursing Program may take classes on the Mayville State campus.

Mayville State offers majors in early childhood special education, elementary special education, and secondary special education. The new program serves to meet the demand for special education professionals in North Dakota, and ensures that teachers possess adequate and appropriate content knowledge and special pedagogy for the grades and subjects they teach. The special education major can be incorporated within traditional teacher preparation or added to an existing degree. All courses within the major are available on campus and online.

MSU offers a variety of extended learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of today’s students. Distance students may enroll as non-degree-seekers or pursue degree programs in business administration; early childhood; mathematics; university studies; and elementary, early childhood, and mathematics education. A new completely online RN to BSN program opened this fall. The program is designed to with the flexibility to accommodate working RNs who want to become nurses at the baccalaureate level.

MSU partners with Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D. to offer four-year degrees in business administration, elementary education, and early childhood. Mayville offers similar opportunities in elementary education on the NDSCS campus in Wahpeton and in the evenings on the Mayville State campus. On the campus of Williston State College, Mayville State offers opportunities in elementary education, early childhood, and online business administration.

Mayville State’s athletic facilities have been extensively updated, and the largest residence hall on campus, has been transformed to provide apartment- and suite-style living accommodations. The science and library buildings have been updated, and a new addition to the library and science buildings is home to the Division of Education & Psychology.
