It’s pre-registration time at Mayville State!

Many new faces will sprinkle our campus as the fall semester approaches. More than 140 freshmen and 30 transfer students were invited to attend one of five orientation and pre-registration sessions held at Mayville State this spring and summer. We’re excited about these new members of the Mayville State family who are committed to becoming Comets and pursuing their educational goals at Mayville State beginning this fall.

Each year, in preparation for the fall semester, Mayville State hosts several summer orientation and pre-registration sessions for new students. At each pre-registration event, students have the opportunity to meet other students, register for classes, and meet with their first-year advisors. Students also receive training in Mayville State’s e-mail portal and receive their student identification cards.

Parents of the students are encouraged to attend the orientation and pre-registration sessions with their children. Parents learn the ropes about Mayville State University, receive information on their involvement in their child’s education, and take a campus tour. They also have the option of visiting with financial aid, academic support, counseling, and student health representatives.

Pre-registration events were held at Mayville State on April 8, June 7, June 13, and June 18. The final session for the summer is scheduled for June 24. We’ve seen students from as close as Mayville and from as far away as Florida and Alaska. Many of the incoming students represent the states of North Dakota and Minnesota. Several new Comets will come from California, Wisconsin, Utah, Canada, Missouri, Illinois, Washington, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Texas, Oregon, and South Carolina.

An orientation and registration session planned for Monday, August 26 will be the last before the beginning of the fall semester of 2013 on August 27. The schedule will be similar to that of the registrations held this summer. All new students, including those who have already registered, are encouraged to participate in some of the activities on August 26.

Our student life department has a full week of activities planned for all Mayville State students Saturday, August 24-Friday, August 30, the first week of the fall semester. This will be the third annual Comet Jam. Activities will include a kickball competition, an outdoor dance, a pool party, and a campus and community expo.

A pep rally is being planned for August 27. The evening will include games, music with DJ Kendall Johnson, Comet spirit competition, and introductions of the football and volleyball teams. A bonfire, with hot dogs and soda provided by the Alumni Association, will top off the night.

Campus Crusade will sponsor their traditional Night at the Island on August 29. The night is highlighted by inflatable games and a free picnic meal, all at Mayville’s beautiful Island Park.

Before we know it, Mayville State’s fall sports athletes will be on campus for pre-season camps, and fall semester will be in full swing. We’re still accepting applications for admission for the fall semester. A limited number of scholarships are still available, as well.
